Green Africa Foundation is working hard to combat deforestation in order to successfully achieve the 10% tree cover articulated by the Kenyan Constitution 2010. The success cannot be fully achieved single handedly but through joint efforts, collaborations and partnerships. It is in this regard that Green Africa Foundation together with Rongai Green Schools Programme Initiative held a tree planting event on the 14^th May 2014 at Losibil Primary School within Nakuru County.

The theme for the event was “Together we can increase forest cover in Nakuru County,” under the goal of “Greening Nakuru for Sustainable Development.” The event was graced by Nakuru County governor H.E. Hon. Kinuthia Mbugua with a host of other County Executives.

A specific area was fenced off in front of the school for tree planting in order to help protect the seedlings from getting damaged in their first two years of growth. Holes for the trees were pre-dug using tractors in order to obtain the correct width and depth for the seedlings to successfully grow.

Local community gathered for the tree planting event, with more women present than men, highlighting the cultural divides within society. These dynamics stress the need for gender mainstreaming as a way to engage all community members in the importance of environmental conservation
