INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Background

Green Africa foundation through the Green Villages Programme seeks to develop Green Centers of excellence all over Kenya that will become a hub for community services.

In this respect, the organization accepts interns from various universities throughout the world who will help these centers to improve in all aspects. The interns also visit our Green Centre of Excellence in Kitui which is replicated in various institutions in Kenya.

Currently Green Africa Foundation in conjunction with AIESEC is hosting Seven Japanese students who arrived on August 2011. Five students have already commenced their internship programme at  five different Green Africa Foundation centers.The remaining two are working in the office to come up with proper systems for the internship programme and to develop a green trade for Kenya and Japan. The duration period for the internship is 2-3 months whereby the students will have contributed to the improvement of the centres.

Not to give fish but to show how to catch fish.

Expectation for this internship

Though this internship, I would like to get to talk to as many people as I can and to be able to think differently. I am going to face the reality and solve many difficulties using my experience of my life.

Experience I got so far in this internship

I have learned the hospitality of Kenyan people in a way how they welcome foreigners willingly. I find it very different from Japan that there is a spirit of "Hakuna Matata" which can be demonstrated clearly by an African time.

Expectations for this internship

As I have been interested in educational development, I have expected to see the real situation in Kenyan schools. Now, I ‘m trying to find a way to benefit both Green Africa and my school.

Experiences I got so far in this internship

Through visiting both public and informal school, I realized that not only the challenges which each school faced, but also those of slums and Kenya as a whole. This gave me the opportunities to consider my country from another perspective.

I‘m working at the office as a marketer for "Green Trade" between Kenya and Japan.

I want to establish a system that Japanese customers can support the green activity of African communities sustainably through their daily shopping.

 

Expectations for this internship

Through this internship, I hope to train my specialty such as international trade management and marketing. In future, I want to be a global business person who can change the world. This internship will be an important step to my dream.

Experiences I got so far in this internship

I've learned the concept of Green Trade. It was very new idea for me, but I think it is necessary for Kenya and Japan.

Expectations for this internship

I would like to learn how people are living here in Kenya, and contribute them to have environmentally better life.

Also, I would like to develop my knowledge through this internship.

Experience I got so far in this internship

I have taught about Japan to standard 7sudents and planted kales and avocados. Also, I have taken Swahili class with some students. I learned that Kenyan students are hard working and know a lot about planting.

I understood that people who living in slums accept realities and try to live desperately. So, when I am going to take actions against them, I will have to behave towards them.

My expectation is I talk the all members of school so many times and together all members learn to solve their problems by their own

Experience I got so far in this internship

I taught some class Japanese culture in primary and secondary school and taken questionnaire for students to find the challenge of their school.
