Kitui district (the current Mutomo district included) covers an area of approximately 20,402km2 including 6,903km2 occupied by the uninhabited Tsavo National park .The district is divided into 10 divisions, 57 locations and 187 sub-locations.
The climate of the district is arid and semi-arid with very erratic and unreliable rainfall.
