Green Africa Foundation and KICC mark the World Environmental Day
Green Africa Foundation in partnership with Kenyatta International Conference (KICC) today marked the World Environmental Day by planting over 1000 trees at the Nairobi School. Students from the school, led by the institution’s Deputy Principal Ms. Loyce Ndegwa and the Dean of Students Mr. Peter Kwambai, participated in the event. The staff from KICC was led by the Corporate Planning Manager Mr. Humphrey Odendo and the Public Relations executive Ms. Silvia Mochorwa while the team from Green Africa Foundation was led by Dr. Isaac Kalua, who is also the chairperson and founder of the organization.
Reading the Managing Director’s speech on his behalf, Mr. Odendo said “Environmental day celebrations go way back to around the year 1973 which is also around the same time the KICC building was completed and born.” He further said that “KICC is committed to responsible environmental practices which they have demonstrated through their corporate social responsibility practices and day-to-day business operations.” Mr. Odendo invited students who are members of the environmental club to visit the 28 storey building and learn more about the premier conference facility.
Nairobi School Deputy Principal Ms. Ndegwa (in pink sweater), Green Africa Foundation chairperson Dr. Kalua, KICC staff and students join hands in lifting the trees each one is to plantDr. Kalua while emphasizing on the importance of conserving environment, reminded the audience of this year’s World Environment Day theme which is “Think, Eat and Save.” He said: “As a learning institution, you need to adopt an environmental friendly way of eating in which you minimize food wastage.” On her remarks, Ms. Ndegwa thanked Green Africa Foundation and KICC for choosing her institution to mark the international day and promised to foster the relationship with like minded institutions in conserving our environment.
